RedCM ver. 2.1

client: Self Initiated
launch date: 5/2008

GOALS

RedCM is a different approach to content management. It assumes that sites are not necessarily standard template based installations and that a content management system should serve un-orthodox ideas rather than force a particular type of content approach.

Another challange we were facing in this project was multi-lingual approach to site creation. Most of our clients requires more than one language in their web site but still want to implement the same graphic design and centrality of web site management.

SOLUTION

We created an online platform based on .NET framework and Ajax that differentiate between three types of visual content:

  • Page items: Like most content managements, redcm supports a template-based approach where site administrators can create multiple pages that share the same design and only replaces texts and images in constant style, size and layout. These are reffered to in the redcm as "page items".

  • Context items: Items that are shared accross the site/application and are part of the site's lexical dictionary such as the copyright note or the "login" link. Once you change these items, they are updated accross the site.

  • Dynamic items: These items are what makes redcm unique and powerful. These are "list based" items that hold within them "objects" of textual and visual information and can be easily defined and customized for each project. This concept is very similar to Micorsoft sharepoint's "Info path" but it's much lighter, faster to implement and easier to maintain. The implications of these are numerous, for example, we use them to maintain the project information in this site, the tests in Jobtestprep and catalog in Albaad

The final outcome of the redcm is SCORM compliant and does not reqire our clients to have database server license.
